Концепция композитарной монархии – выработанный в современной историографии аналитический инструмент для изучения крупноразмерных, структурно сложных государственных образований и происходящих в них этнокультурных и этнополитических процессов. Композитарные монархии развивались в условиях конкуренции универсалистского и партикуляристского дискурсов, определявших конфигурацию их внешних контуров и внутренних структур. История Британии с классического Средневековья и до правления Тюдоров и Стюартов свидетельствует о процессе формирования «композитных» (составных) идентичностей, которые в рамках сложных в территориальном отношении политий принимают форму консентуальных идентичностей, связанных с этническими общностями второго плана. Внутри композитарных политий возникают условия для реализации различных стратегий аккультурации. Выделяют следующие модификации аккультурационных стратегий: ассимиляция, сепарация, маргинализация и интеграция. Единственно возможным вариантом для формирования консентуальной идентичности в условиях композитарной монархии является модель интеграции. Интеграция позволяет композитам, вовлеченным в процесс этноморфоза, различными путями актуализировать собственное историко-культурное наследие и структурировать коллективное самосознание. Неоднородная структура композитарной монархии при Тюдорах и первых Стюартах предполагала, что стратегия интеграции задействует административные и интеллекту-альные механизмы, разнящиеся для композитов британской периферии – Уэльса, Ирландии и Шотландии.
