- Abstract
- The Krasovsky ellipsoid provides a mathematical approximation of the real figure of the Earth and won recognition as an international standard in geodesy. This paper uses new archival documents to explore the life and activities of the founder of the Soviet school of geodesy, Feodosy Nikolaevich Krasovsky, who organized the Central State Institute of Geodesy and Cartography and developed the program of systematic triangulations and measurement analysis that led to the calculation of the parameters of the ellipsoid named after him. Using new archival documents, this article explores some previously unknown aspects of his life and work.
