- Abstract
- Historians of biology have investigated in much detail the development of evolutionary ideas and the reception and further development of Darwin's theory in various countries, including Russia. Much more fragmentary, however, is our knowledge of how the reading public, including scientists, actually read Darwin's book. This article looks at the history of translations and publications of Darwin's masterpiece in Russian and analyzes how, in what form, and to what degree, it influenced the development of Russian biology.
