- Abstract
- Using collections from the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this essay discusses the roles of scientists, scientifi c collectives, and the institutions of the Soviet Academy of Sciences in the creation and development of military technology, which helped to ensure Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Academy's contributions to scientifi c and technical innovations from 1941 to 1945 are analyzed in the long-term context of 20th century history. The author concludes that the specifi c mode of organization of research represented by the Academy came from a combination of traditions going back to different periods in the historical development of Russian culture, society, and the state.
