Abstract
A 17th century silver smelting factory on the Tulitsa river and the cross-cultural transfer of technological knowledge. The article investigates forms of cross-cultural diffusion - transfer, reception, and adaptation - of technical knowledge in the pre-industrial era by examining the transfer of Western-European knowledge to Russia during the 17th century and the history of the Gorodishchensky silver smelting factory on the Tulitsa river. The study analyses methods of transfer, participants (donor, recipient, mediator), changes and transformations of knowledge in the process, and factors that influenced its rapidity. The author develops a methodological approach similar to diffusion theories and discusses its potential for further research on the problem.
