Abstract

The name of S. D. Yudintsev is fairly well known to historians of biology: as the dean of the biology department at Moscow State University from 1938 to 1948, he stood at the center of many attempts by the genetics community to resist Lysenkoism. No studies of his life and work have been published, however, apart from an obituary after his death. This neglect can be addressed with recently found archival materials about Yudintsev, which are described and analyzed in this essay.
