Abstract
Russian literary documents record the existence of medial astrology and iatromathematics since the end of the 15 th century. In material culture and sources related to horology, one can find indications of astrological thinking in connection with clocks and time keeping at a significantly earlier date. That branch ofastrology attempted to prognosticate events by assigning specific colors to hours as either «good», «intermediate» or «bad» for specific undertakings. Accordingly, clocks were used in the astrological medical practice of the Renaissance. The connection between the first public clock mounted on a Kremlin tower in 1404 and the iatrosciences comes from the possible use of this clock in the context of a specifically Slavic version of astrological horology, in which the pattern of assigning magical colors differed from the western European tradition.
