Abstract

New materials from the Kazan archives illuminate the life and work of the astronomer and outstanding Russian logician, P. S. Poretsky (1846-1907). These materials allow a more precise biographical account of Poretsky and his research in mathematical logic. The program of his lectures in mathematical logic, the first such lectures in Russia, are published here.
