- Abstract
In the first decade of the 20th century Dmitrii Nikolaevich Sobolev proposed an original conception of macroevolution in which, for the first time, auto- and ectogenelic variants of neocatasirophism were combined into a single synthetic theory. He developed a new periodization of the history of the organic world which explained fundamental changes both in fiora and fauna as a result of intensified periods of uplifting and volcanic activity. Sobolev tried to show that at different stages of phylogenesis different mechanisms of the evolutionary process (and correspondingly different laws of evolution) were at work. His conception rcfiected a holistic vision of evolution.
