This essay attempts, on the basis of new archival materials, to reconsider the history of the 1936 «anti-Soviet strike» of the Kharkov physicists. Among the direct and indirect participants of the «strike» were the distinguished scientists L.D. Landau, L.V. Shubnikov, I.Ya. Pomeranchuk, A.I. Akhiezer, V.S. Gorsky, A.K. Kikoin, and others. Acquaintance with newly discovered documents sheds new light on the working conditions of scientists at Kharkov University and on the tragic consequences of the «strike».
