Space psychology in Russia: history of formation and development features

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the history of Russian space psychology formation and to determine the peculiarities of its development as a branch of psychology. The conclusion on the status of space psychology is substantiated: after the stage of preparation and execution of short-term missions in Earth orbit, at the present stage of preparation and execution of long-duration missions in Earth orbit, space psychology is preparing to enter the third stage of its development – the preparation and execution of interplanetary flights under the programs of colonization of the Moon and Mars. The following features of space psychology development are distinguished: 1) significant influence of aviation psychology, 2) close interdisciplinary links with space medicine and various types of space training, 3) direct scientific and popular science contribution of cosmonauts, 4) provision of high-tech labor functions.
