The article deals with the image of Tadeusz Kościuszko, head of the Polish national liberation revolt in 1794, in the Polish periodicals of 1815–1830. The topic is considered in the context of official culture of the Congress Kingdom of Poland, created by Alexander I under the auspices of Russian Empire. Within official ideology, recognition of the Polish national hero, famous for his battles with the Russians, was restricted by certain conventions: absence of anti-Russian topics and hiding of the very essence of historical conflicts which made Kościuszko the leader of the Poles.
