Abstract

Many pages in the history of the struggle of American women for their rights are devoted to the problems of reproductive rights and, in particular, abortion (the right to abortion). At present, these stories do not lose their acute relevance in the circumstances presented: passions are fueled by intermediate races of applicants for hundreds of elected government posts across the country and at the federal level to the House of Representatives (in full) and the Senate (one third of the composition), on the one hand. On the other hand, the decision of the US Supreme Court in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturned on June 24, 2022 the landmark decision in the Roe v. Wade case of 1973. life, including the right of a woman to make her choice to maintain or terminate a pregnancy. Legal abortion is under threat, as reflected in the toxic rise in state legislation undermining reproductive rights to terminate pregnancies.

American women, far from unanimous, are reacting to losses in gains. US women are not a monolithic segment of the electorate, professing an unambiguous and common position regarding reproductive rights. The picture of abortion supporters and anti-abortionists is more of a multi-colored mosaic than painted in two polar colors - blue (symbolizing the Democrats) and red (symbolizing the Republicans), and mixed shades in between. A number of states are considering legislative initiatives aimed at restricting access to birth control methods, others have already introduced state-level laws almost completely prohibiting abortion procedures.

The Democratic president is urging Americans to actively participate in the November midterm elections to elect lawmakers who will provide a strong legal framework to protect the reproductive rights of American women.
