Abstract
The Institute of the Corps of Road Engineers (subsequently also known under later names as the Leningrad Institute ofRailroad Transport and the St. Petersburg State University of Railroad Transport) was founded in 1809. The tradition of descriptive geometry and engineering graphics in Russia, established by the Institute’s first professors - A. de Betancourt (1758-1824), K. I. Potier (1786-1850 and Ya. A. Sevastianov (1796-1849) -was further developed in the important works of their successors - A. Ch. Reder (1809-1872), N. P. Durov (1834-1878), N. A. Rynin (1877-1942), D. I. Kargin (1880-1949) and a few others.
