- Abstract
- This essay is devoted to the prominent scientist-shipbuilder and pedagogue, engineer-vice-admiral Alexander Pavlovich Shershov (1874-1959), and his investigations in the fi eld of history of science and technology. The author examines and analyzes Shershov's research on the history of the Baltic Shipyard, as well as his fundamental study, A History of Military Shipbuilding from Ancient Times to Our Day (1940). The latter provided a systematic survey of combat ships and shipbuilding production of the world's leading sea powers at different stages of historical development. A review by Academician A. N. Krylov about Shershov's historical and scientifi c works is also included.
