- Abstract
The example of the discoveries of chemical elements shows that the verifiable estimation of a given discovery can be achieved only in the course of investigation of the whole research process which led to the discovery. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the acknowledgement of the discovery of a previously unknown element are discussed. The author suggests methods of analysis of claims to the probable discoveries of chemical elements made in the past.
