- Abstract
- During almost four years of Pacific War the relations in triangle USSR - USA- Japan preserved uncertainty. The U.S.A. and Japan where at war, the USSR and America were Allies, and Moscow maintained diplomatic relations with Japan. With varying degrees of intensity and frequency secret negotiations between Moscow, Washington and Tokyo took place. Due to historical circumstances Soviet Union was the most active participant of those talks. At the beginning of war negotiations were going around the hypothetical Soviet participation in the war on the American side, later the discussion was focused on the specific aspects of fighting against Japan which were entangled with the first signs of cold war. Six days before Japan’s capitulation Soviet Union entered the war, and relations in the triangle finally, but not for very long, got defined. Moscow and Washington were Allies in that war, but their relations grew cooler every day, and at last went down to the level of cold war.
